Queen Mary's Hospital Sidcup

he new Queen Mary's Hospital replaced the original Great War hutted hospital in 1974. It is now a modern district hospital with full acute facilities. From April 1st 2009 it joined the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich and Princess Royal Hospital, Farnborough in a new "super-Trust" which will serve the whole of SE London, to be called the South London Healthcare Trust. The Chief Executive is Dr Chris Streather and the Chairman is George Jenkins. A proposal called "A Picture of Health" has recently been agreed, which will eventually result in the closure of the A&E department and the transfer of maternity services to the other sites, with redevelopment of Queen Mary's as an elective centre.

The hospital's teaching program for undergraduates has been very successful, and it is now designated as an Associated University Hospital of the University of London.

A book about the hospital, produced for the 20th anniversary of the new hospital and covering events from 1917 to 1994, is available on request from the Curator, price £4.00. A new commemorative work, ten years on, has been released (same price) and contains many anecdotes and photographs across the years. This has been compiled by Iris Presswell and the Curator.

The images used within this site are drawn from an extensive collection on disk. The collection comprises a number of hospital views from photographs and postcards, as well as many clinical photographs. In the reduced size here some definition is lost from the originals, which can be requested.
